1. How long will it take to photograph my property?
The amount of time required to properly photograph a home or commercial building can vary greatly. The biggest factor is the size of the property. As a general guideline plan on about 1 hour. But many large homes and commercial or retail buildings can take longer for photography. The time required for your photo shoot can be discussed at the time you book it.
2. How can I help prepare my client’s (or my) home for a real estate photo shoot?
The neater and cleaner your home or business is, the better it will photograph. Always start with a good cleaning. But to help homeowners and realtors prepare for the real estate photography I have prepared a check list of things you can do to really make the home photo ready. Read my home prep check list online.
3. What type of real estate photography equipment do you use?
I use high end, professional grade, full frame Canon and Sony digital cameras with 24 or 42mp resolution and a variety of lenses that allow me to capture any building from any perspective. For aerial photos and video, I use a range of DJI equipment, to include the Phantom 4, the Phantom 4 Professional, and the Mavic Pro.
4. Do you charge tax for your real estate photography services?
No….but I do COLLECT taxes, as both Loudoun County and the state of Virginia require photographers to collect sales tax on all services they provide, not just the physical prints or digital images. The total tax rate for photography services is 6% (Subject to change).
5. Are you able to travel to photograph my project?
Yes, I am available to travel worldwide for your photography projects. Travel expenses are billed at cost to the client. There is never an up-charge on travel costs.
6. Do you retain the copyright to your images or are those transferred to me when I buy prints or digital images?
Yes, I retain the copyrights as is standard practice in the photography industry. You purchase a a single use, non-transferable, non-exclusive image license. For real estate agents that image license is good for the duration of your listing and expires once the listing is sold, canceled or reassigned to another agent. For all others the license does not expire. This is a non-transferable license, meaning you, as the licensee, may not sell, give or loan the photos to any other party. You do have wide leverage to use them for your marketing and promotional needs however. This license is also non-exclusive, meaning the copyright holder may sell multiple licenses for the same images.
7. Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, I can accept payment by check, cash, EFT (electronic funds transfer right from your bank account), Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or PayPal.
8. Do I have to meet you at the home to give you access?
If the home has a contractor’s lock box installed you may provide that code for access. Of course, you are also always welcome to meet me at the home and hang out during the photo shoot, have the homeowner grant access, or one of your representatives.
9. What if the weather is bad on the day of my shoot?
If the weather is bad on the day of your scheduled shoot (i.e. rain, heavy clouds and the like) you will be given the opportunity to reschedule for the next available open shoot date. If you choose to proceed with the shoot as scheduled, regardless of the weather, please understand that the listed pricing does not include fixing photos for cloudy skies and such. 10. Can you just PhotoShop that?
PhotoShop is an awesome tool with a lot of power. However, nothing replaces making sure the home is photo-ready when the photographer arrives. PhotoShop does not do windows, clean floors, put the kids toys away or play gardener. Keep in mind that the home will look as good in photos as it does in person.
11. How much notice do you need to schedule my photo shoot?
Ideally, for day time photo shoots 4 – 5 days notice should be provided in order to get your preferred date and time. I can occasionally accommodate last minute requests, but it is best not to rely on that. Twilight photo shoots are very popular and tend to fill up quicker. The more notice you can provide the better.
12. What are your hours? Do you have availability on weekends and holidays?
Photo shoots are scheduled week days from 10 am through twilight (note, the exact time of twilight varies through the year). Photo shoot appointments are typically not available on the weekends or holidays. If you have a special request outside of those hours please send an email so we can see if we can accommodate your needs.
